I spent 27 years in U.S. Coast Guard public affairs. For the last twelve I was Assistant Director of the service's Motion Picture & Television Office in Los Angeles, the two-person office that works with the studios, networks, streamers, game publishers and creators who want the Coast Guard on screen. Before that I worked the press side of major federal emergencies, including Deepwater Horizon, Hurricane Sandy and the Paulsboro train derailment.
Both halves of that career ask for the same thing: get to the true story fast, protect the people and the brand in it, and keep the room calm when the pressure is on.
